The walking play “The River” is a journey into the stories of people, things, and nature – a co-existence that is often fragile, unpredictable, and exposed to longing, discovery, and hardship. The play is based on real events experienced by the people of Liepāja. These stories of Liepāja are now travelling to Valmiera to create a meeting point for the two cities and to share touching personal experiences that unite us regardless of our location.
The author of the piece Kristīne Brīniņa came to the idea by thinking about the impossibility of loneliness. Curious, how each and every one of us is in a constant relationship with our surroundings, whether it’s the ground, a tree, a bench, an animal, a friend, a neighbour, or anything or anyone else, no matter how near or far. And even if we’re not always aware of each other’s presence, we’re continuing an endless flow of relationships.
